I am purchasing the beginner yoga series while it is on sale. I am 4 weeks post-op from abdominal hysterectomy. Need to ask my doctor when I see her Tuesday when it is safe to start this series. I'm definitely a beginner with yoga; but feel like it's something I need in my life. Excited to get the clear to start this!
@Mandy as soon as you are cleared by your Dr. You will LOVE this series. There is so much shared on how to modify, be kind to yourself and to celebrate where you are at with the practice. There are also reminders that yoga is so much more than just the physical asana practice...that it is a state of being. Even if to start you can only sit and meditate, that is yoga. Good luck on your journey. This program is helping me and hope it helps you too.
Thank you, Amanda. I've been reading Kino's Ashtanga Yoga book. It goes into depth about all that yoga is before she even starts discussing the poses. I really like that, bc it has helped keep me on the frame of mind that it is more than a physical journey. My reasons for wanting to learn yoga include fitness, but I am just as much in need of the spiritual and enlightenment aspects as well.
I just got the basic yoga mix, but have been doing my own ashtanga practice each week day before work, for about a month. My minimum is 10 minutes. Some days I can spend 1/2 hour, but at least I do my 10 min. This daily practice has helped me get my mind and body ready to tackle the day and helps me to be grounded and not just running here and there...I would really recommend a consistent daily practice to all of you, even if it's short.
Yes no compromise ... hit the mat everyday. I have not yet read Kino's books but plan to this summer. I have gone back to university at age 35 so not much time to read anything other than textbooks. The struggle is real as I discover inner awareness. Between family, school, work and new puppy there is never a dull moment. But what you focus on multiplies I find. Like the fact that the puppy now gives me from 6am to 7 most mornings for my practice.
Hello lovelies! I just started headstands yesterday and my shoulders and neck are crazy sore. They don't hurt like an "injured" hurt though. Is that normal since I haven't done them before or am I doing something wrong?
How long are each one of the video's? I am buying this Wed. when I get paid
On average 25 to 30 minutes.
@Meghan any improvements?
Thank you. I am also looking into a new to a new yoga mat and so new clothes. I want good ones with out paying $$
@Deanne maybe others have better advise. I did not worry in the beginning about having a great mat or clothes. I am not sure where you are located but here in ontario canada I went to Old Navy and got some amazing deals and Winners. I got just your basic foam mat to start. I did save up and invest in a yoga dharma wheel (which is amazing and really helping to open my back and hips ad well as work as an assist), foam yoga blocks (Gaiam 4in because I did not have the flexibility or I wanted to stretch deeper, I even use it in child's pose), a band (to bind and hold poses), a foam roller (to work out knots and kinks...it hurts but I notice a lengthening of my muscles and increase in mobility). I was not going to wait for anything to start changes right away. I practice at 5:30 or 6 am when the house is still asleep so even just sports bra and pants works for me.
@Amanda Yes! I think my neck muscles just weren't used to my body weight yet. There isn't much soreness anymore and my balance is improving!
@Meghan Great to hear! I watched a periscope with Dashama and she showed using an exercise ball to assist with head/hand stands to build strength. I am tall at 6ft so the 75cm ball is the one I use. Think head/hands on the ground butt in the air, feet on the ball and rolling up till back is straight and hips are stacked over shoulders then roll back out to give muscles a break. Maybe a bad description but I think it will help once I try them unassisted.
@Amanda That's a great idea!! I'll have to try using an exercise ball next time!
@Amanda, Thank you.. I have been doing yoga for a couple of years but recently took a break do to a pinch nerve in my neck that still gives me trouble at times. I work out @ 4:30 am before i go to work and get the kids and hubby up for school and work. I am really looking forward to Kerri and Kino starting their own clothing line. :)
